So - WHY does this matter????
Each of us interprets our world based upon our own experience of it AND what we were taught while growing up. Our interpretations create our beliefs which, in turn, impacts the way we experience our world.
Our “foundational” (core) beliefs are created by the time we are six or seven years old. This same period of time is also when our brains grow the most, and the fastest.
During those first six or seven years, many of our foundational beliefs become subconscious, and they impact and shape the way we "see," interpret, and experience our world… until the moment we die. As we grow older, we add to and/or modify our beliefs… but the foundation stays the same.
Some of the beliefs can be supportive - such as "I am safe." Some are "neutral"; but many of our subconscious beliefs are non-supportive ones, largely because they are "interpretations" made from the perspective of a small child who does not fully understand the big picture. OR maybe life experiences were traumatic and/or harsh, leading us to perceive “life” as being traumatic and/or harsh.
Our subconscious beliefs are largely what is behind many of our struggles, our frustrations, and our dissatisfaction with ourselves and/or our life; our beliefs impact our results. This is why your growing/healing process is - and will be - unique to you; you have your own unique set of beliefs, and your own unique approach to navigating life.
AGAIN - WHY does this matter?
The simple version is that should you hope to create positive change in your life, YOUR CHANGE FORMULA is specific - unique - to you. It may look similar to what another is doing to create change in their life, yet it will NOT be the same.
THAT IS WHY people get different results from using the same techniques.
Additionally, as you create change in your life, your Change Formula may change, too. That’s because it is made up of numerous layers - layers designed to protect our heart, our mind, and/or our body. As the need for each layer is eliminated (though personal change - often referred to as “healing”), the layer is “let go” and reveals a different layer… potentially changing your “formula.”
SO - HOW do you figure out your personal CHANGE FORMULA???
FIRST - it will help to understand the basics: how our brains develop, how we perceive, how we create our beliefs, and how it impacts our experience of our world…
…which present the scientific and intellectual information, broken down into easily understandable descriptions and explanations.
PART 1 is a BASIC presentation of how the brain develops (from conception through old age), including typical developmental milestones - correlating them to WHERE the brain is “growing” in the moment, activities that facilitate development, nutritional needs, appropriate environmental structures & boundaries, and links to additional information for those who wish to develop a more thorough understanding.
PART 2 covers the BASICs of how we “receive” information. This section will explain the “operating system” of how our many senses actually work - and this is MORE than just the basic five senses (seeing, hearing, smelling, touching, and tasting). We actually have THREE brains - that’s right, three! Besides our head brain, we also have a heart brain and a gut brain. So this section will also include information about the other two brains, as well.
PART 3 explains the BASICs of how our brains interpret all the input we receive from our senses. It is actually something we are TAUGHT by those around us - our parents, our older relatives and neighbors, our teachers, etc. Technically, this is input as well - however, it is input on HOW to interpret all the other information we receive and it forms the foundation for our own, personalized “instruction manual” on how to live our life, relate to our self, relate to others… basically, everything related to our choices, our behaviors, our feelings, etc.
and PART 4 covers how our three brains, our input (the “received” information), and our “instructional manual” all work together to form our “belief system” - and how that belief system impacts our life.
This gives everyone a common foundation (without having to go to graduate school) of how our brains and our perceptions work, how we create our beliefs, and how it is all intertwined.
Understanding how you developed your own habits and beliefs… which ones work FOR you, and which ones no longer help… gives you the basic understanding of how to create your own change, should you wish to do so.
