BRAIN: PROCESSES - THE FIVE SENSES

Five Senses.png

This section provides a simple explanation of how we perceive through our five senses - plus our two “other brains”.

One would think this is fairly straightforward - BUT DID YOU KNOW that you have a blind spot in both eyes? SO even if you have “perfect 20-20” vision, you really are not accurately seeing the physical world. PLUS your eyes can be tricked (ever seen a magician?). How do our eyes work, then?

Learn more how we see - and how our brains interpret what we see - here.

AND what about our hearing? You might know that our ears have three parts: the outer ear, the middle ear, and the inner ear. AND you might know that our ears “collect” the sound waves through the outer and middle ears to the inner ear where “fluid” communicates with the nerves, sending electrical impulses into the brain, which then interprets the signals.

BUT many things can hinder “accurate” transmission of sound, AND the brain is INTERPRETING the sound - so are we really hearing what we think we are hearing?

Learn more about your hearing - hear, uh - I mean here.

And what about our sense of smell - does our nose work the way we think it does? OR does it also give us inaccurate information? Find out here.

THEN there’s our sense of taste. Learn about how our taste buds work here.

And our sense of touch is impacted by our skin - the biggest organ of our body. How does all that work with our body? How accurate is its input? Learn about it here.

AND WHERE does intuition fit in???

Did you know that some scientists believe that we actually have 3 brains? The brain between our ears is the one we all know we have; but there is actually brain cells in the heart - and scientists have been studying this for decades. There is also a brain in our gut - our digestive area (hence, the “gut feeling” part of intuition). These two “other” brains are actually capable of operating INDEPENDENTLY from our “head” brain. Want to know more?

Check out the “gut” brain - our 2nd brain - here.

AND check out our “heart” brain (the 3rd one, related to compassion and unconditional love) - here.
