Our Developing Brain

PRENATAL DEVELOPMENT

How does our brain develop BEFORE we are born? What nutrients/food does the pregnant mother need in order to HELP the baby’s brain & body grow in the best way possible? Does the mother’s activities and feelings make a difference in the baby’s development? CAN WE help our baby learn BEFORE he/she is born?

birth through young adult

This is the busiest time for our developing bodies and brains. In fact, our brain has obtained 90% of it’s full growth by the time we are 5 years old.

AND everything we learn by the time we are 5 - emotional, physical, social, etc. - impacts the rest of our lives. BUT our brain is still developing, at least until we are 25 years old.

Adult through middle age

Jokes and anecdotal tales abound regarding the “loss of brain ability” when one hits middle age.

AND … they are usually inaccurate. Research shows that while certain brain abilities DO decline, others actually improve as we age.

Here is where I share information on “fluid” intelligence and “crystalized” intelligence and how they impact our middle years.

I also touch on the games and activities which facilitate “plasticity” (the ability to “rewire” neural networks).

old age

I am sure you have met at least one octogenarian or nonagenarian whose mind is very sharp.

AND you’ve met at least one person in that age group whose brain just wasn’t working very well.

What happens to our brain during our geriatric years? Why do some people get dementia and others do not? How is it some people with dementia DO NOT SHOW SIGNS of having dementia?

Here’s where you can find some of the answers.
